About
When I was working with the Heroes, a San Diego band, the bass player, Ralph Battle, was at my studio after a gig one night and showed me some of his lyrics. I immediately wrote this song and we recorded it that night complete with final mix. That's Ralph's voice you hear on the middle 8.
Lyrics
If love is what I wanted
Then I hope you understood
You're the only one who makes
The word mean something good
My plans were not to plan ahead
Not to let my heart get caught
I never would have let you in
If I'd known how long
You'd hold my heart
Now I'm on a tightrope
And I can't look down
(if I lose you,)
Then I lose it all
(afraid of heights)
And I'm 'fraid of heights
Well it's just too far to fall oh yeah
There's a price to pay for freedom
Even if I can't have you
That's the way I thought I felt
That was my point of view
But you made my world turn smoothly
And you soothed my aches and pains
It's joy and fear that grip me
When I think of how life's changed
Now I'm on a tightrope
And I can't look down
(if I lose you) then I lose it all
(can't look down)
I'm afraid of heights
And it's just to far to fall
I saw the trap you set for me
I play outside it's reach
The future wasn't my concern
Not fate or destiny
I was drawn in closer
I started thinkin' straight
But by the time my wits were back
I knew that it was far too late
Now I'm on a tightrope
And I can't look down
(if I lose you) then I lose it all
(can't look down) I'm afraid of heights
And it's just to far to fall
(now I'm on a) tightrope
And I can't look down
(if I lose you) well I lose it all
(I can't look down) I'm afraid of heights
Well it's just to far to fall
(now I'm on a tightrope)
And I can't look down
(if I lose you) then I lose it all
(can't look down) I'm afraid of heights
Well it's just to far to fall yeah
Just to far to fall
Just to far to fall
Well it's just to far to fall
